VISION
By: Roger Sachs
Most Christians are aware of the Bible verse that says, “Where there is no vision the people perish”. Since the absolute last thing we should want as New Testament believers, is for people to perish . . . then we should seek God for vision in everything we do. In this web-site I will attempt to share the vision we have to “do our part” in fulfilling the Great Commission. During the last years of my friend Lonnie Frisbee’s life he was always passionately preaching and teaching about “The Great Commission” in which Jesus declares, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
The Great Commission is the broad foundation of our vision. Since my personal encounter with Christ in 1975 as a drug dealing college dropout, he has totally changed my life. I immediately embarked on missionary work traveling to Mexico to share with my former drug smuggling connections the radical news that . . . “Hey, this might sound weird . . . but Jesus is really real!” After a year of running from God and also hiding from me, my main former partner in crime, Ernesto Hernandez prayed to receive Christ in his life. He was truly “born-again”, went to Bible school, and for almost 30 years has been in full time prison and rehabilitation ministry in Tecate, Mexico leading hundreds and hundreds to God. There is great joy and reward in participating in the great commission.
I followed Lonnie Frisbee’s ministry for years from afar. However, in 1980 he came to our church, Calvary Chapel Yorba Linda, and I personally witnessed the ensuing fireworks, which have become “well-documented” church history. Another major move of God went around the world with Lonnie center-stage in its birthing. A few years later he fell into disfavor with the leadership, and I didn’t see Lonnie again for seven years. We crossed paths for the second time in 1990 in London, England on a Vineyard ministry trip. From that point forward we worked together in our attempts to do missionary work and fullfull the great commission.
As mentioned in other parts of this website, Lonnie asked me to be the ghostwriter of an autobiography that he was working on, and gave me the legal rights to be his authorized biographer. He charged me to tell the whole truth about his life and ministry. When we were not doing mission trips or meetings, we worked on his life story for almost three years straight. Lonnie knew that he had a fatal disease, and that short of a miracle of God his time on earth was limited. Nevertheless we never expected the end to come so quickly. I heartbrokenly complained, “Lord you healed others through Lonnie . . . why didn’t you heal him!!” I was so shocked and grieved. It was a huge blow and tremendous loss to us and the entire world.
In our notarized contract Lonnie gave me specific directions on what he wanted his life story to accomplish. He wanted even his death to promote the Kingdom of God, along with evangelism, missions, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He said, “I am dedicated to Romans 8:14 . . . ‘As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God’.” . . . (divine guidance). I definitely feel led to honor my friend and to keep my charge and commitments to Lonnie. So for well over a year myself and a small crew of friends have been working hard to assemble all the video, audio, transcriptions, photos and interviews. We have much left to accomplish, and it is such a large task. In fact it is taking so long that recently I believe the Lord has given us some fresh marching orders. Instead of waiting to finish the book or books, and to complete a full length documentary we need to start putting out some of Lonnie’s materials and legacy now as we continue to move forward. We are to make use of the magic of an instantaneous worldwide internet to communicate some pearls and anointed pure gold nuggets from the life of Lonnie Frisbee. We covet your prayers.
Note:
You can also give. This has already taken a lot of time and money and is going to take more (see “The Cost” above). We are a 501C3 church organization and your donations are tax deductible. Freedom Crusade is the missionary organization that Lonnie worked in during the last three years of his life. As mentioned, Lonnie signed a notarized document giving this ministry ownership to his life story and directed any proceeds to be channeled back into spreading the gospel and third world missions. We would truly appreciate any support because the vision has outgrown our abilities as tentmakers. God bless you. We are placing a couple donate buttons within this website for peoples convenience, and you can also contact us at Freedom Crusade, P.O. Box 5667, Santa Maria, CA 93456.
